Empowering Lives Through Footwear
Providing shoes to those in need for dignity and safety.
Providing shoes to those in need for dignity and safety.
In 1986, In MI Shoes was born from the childhood experience of cofounder Pearl Sanderfer, who moved between Michigan and Kenosha, Wisconsin with her mother while escaping domestic violence and homelessness. One summer day at the park, Pearl noticed other children laughing. At first, she didn’t understand why…until she looked down at her feet. She was wearing thick winter boots in the summer heat, the only shoes she had. The boots were hot, uncomfortable, and not meant for warm weather. As a child, she couldn’t have known that the pain of standing out that day would one day be transformed into helping others stand up with dignity, comfort, and confidence.

At the heart of our work is a simple belief: everyone deserves the dignity and safety that a good pair of shoes provides. Inspired by personal journeys from hardship, we stand beside those who need a helping hand—providing shoes that protect, empower, and open doors. Whether it’s a child walking to school, a worker heading to their job, or an athlete chasing a dream, we give them the support to stand tall. Our impact is a world where no one suffers due to a lack of basic footwear—because something as simple as a shoe should never hold anyone back.

We are proud to partner with a variety of local organizations to provide the best possible support to our clients. Our partners and independent donations help us extend our reach and impact in the community.
